Riad definitionRiad is a traditional Moroccan house. The translation of riad is garden in Arabic. Riad means two important notions: house & closed garden. Through centuries these riads were for really important & wealthy character.
These characters took a part of them land to create a paradisiacal garden.
With Andalusia influences, these gardens have a lot of trees, smelly plants like jasmine or roses and in middle a fountain. There are also olive trees, orange trees and palm trees. Muslim thinking presents the heaven like a beautiful garden for the eternity. Therefore through centuries, these riads with them garden was reception houses for important & wealthy characters. Buying a riad, you will deep into a harmony life and live a sweet oriental dream. ArchitectureWithin these reception houses we can find living rooms with highly plaster or wooding painting ceiling. In these living rooms, we can also find a beautiful fireplace. These rooms opened directly on the corridor (patio) have also big wooden painting doors (Al-huha). On the floor, zellij (little tiles) draw multicolour painting. Sometimes in corridor, we can see a “B'hou” entire opened room on the corridor. Closed to riad, exist sometimes a private house for the staff or for the owner's riad with a hammam. |
